Wikipedia is now adding the “nofollow” attribute to its entire external links. In fact is already active. You might want to go to wikipedia.org now and start checking out. So what does this give you? Good thing or bad thing? Let’s see.
Wikipedia’s reason for doing this is to prevent spam links, like being practiced by those blackhat search engine optimizers. Searching for blogs, making comments, and spam the site by posting their URLs.
Initially the “nofollow” attribute was intended to spam blogs and such. It then became so popular in the realm of online advertising for the sole purpose of gaining link popularity. There was this time when Google, Yahoo, and others stated that “nofollow” attributes have to be used.
Finally, in my honest opinion, we should start using “nofollow” with our blogs. And i will definitely do this.
